Lately, there has been a talk in Bollywood that the actors are too expensive and the whole film industry is paying the price of that. We do realize that actors are the face of any film or series but they are not the only ones. Filmmaking requires so much more than merely actors and those behind-the-scenes people survive if the film performs well at the box office.
There is also no doubt that these actors are just too expensive. At this point in time, even stars like Aamir Khan and Akshay Kumar can’t guarantee success so what’s the point of paying extra royalty to them?
Well, not sure about mainstream Bollywood but the OTT industry has certainly adapted to the change.
There are reports that the industry is almost sitting idle because of the price negotiations. The actors need platforms as much as the platforms need actors. Thus, some actors are sitting firm at the original price that the OTT platforms are trying to bargain for.
This is an alarming situation and it may impact the next two to three years of OTT. We completely agree with platforms as the era of the OTT boom is now over and the actors definitely need to cut their fees to make OTTs more sustainable. Of course, nobody would want editors, lightmen or other departments to get lower payment because they are already not well-paid.
