After the pandemic, you might have observed a drastic change in the theatrical business of Hindi cinema. A few films like Gangubai Kathiawadi, The Kashmir Files, and Bhool Bhulaiya 2 did really good business at the box office and even OTT.
But a majority of films like Jayeshbhai Jordaar, Prithviraj, and many more simply fell flat without earning any decent number. A big reason for such a trend is OTT.
People are well aware that most films come to OTT after a window of 4 or 5 weeks hardly. Some films have defied that to start streaming within two weeks of theatrical release.
Thus it is pretty understandable that the public prefers waiting for four weeks rather than paying around ₹300 for the theatrical experience.
This has severely impacted the money movies make at the box office. But not for many days now.
The Multiplex Association Of India has come to a conclusion that films that will release on and after 1st August will have to maintain a window of a minimum of 8 weeks before they stream on any OTT platform.
Those films which don’t comply with this will not get screens in any cinema hall within the association.
This means that Shamshera might be one of the last big films released on OTT within 4 weeks of theatrical release.
The decision is definitely worth praise, let’s see how it impacts the OTT business now.
