OTT platforms are not untouched by these brilliant stand up comedians. Most of them who started through YouTube have their own shows on various streaming platforms. Be it Biswa Kalyan Rath, Kanan Gill, Zakir Khan, Arvind Sa, Sapan Verma, Kenny Sebastian, Varane Thakur, Azeem Banatwala and many more.
Amazon Prime Video specifically stands out in giving Indian comedians a platform like never before. Apart from previous shows on the platform it has come up with four new ones recently announced by ace performer Zakir Khan. It includes second season of ‘Chacha Vidhayak Hain Humare’, a new show ‘Tathastu’ along with two other stand-up specials.
But these brilliant performers often bear the brunt of online thrashing. We have freedom of speech as a fundamental right in our nation but there are certain groups in the society that are not liberal enough to take a joke like one should. They often attach political or religious agendas behind it assuming something that wasn’t even the intention and then begins the unjustifiable harassment.
It’s perfectly understandable that comedy does not mean demeaning or offending anyone or any belief system. And this is something that comedians have to keep in mind in order to avoid crossing a thin line between sarcasm and disrespect. With OTT platforms coming to rescue these artists are getting the rightful appreciation they deserve. These platforms are bringing as many performers as possible on board. After all who doesn’t love comedy!!
