OTTs Take Different Approaches When They Run into Controveries

OTT Platforms have gained prominence in the Lockdown. The Pandemic has just fastracked their race to become mainstream. With the popularity and growing subscriber base, the OTT world is also becoming prone to controversies more these days. Every few days, we have been seeing people’s sensibilities being hurt for one reason or the other and trending Hashtags like #BoycottThis and #BoycottThat.

While the OTT Platforms are standing strong on the content original made by them, they are leaving it to the makers of the films they acquire in such controversies. Accordingly, the makers of Laxmmi Bomb and Durgavati have relented and changed their names. Laxmmi Bomb was renamed Laxmii while Durgavati has become Durgamati: The Myth.

“Sooner or later, the producers will be making films and releasing them in theaters. They may have to face the wrath of the protestors for our future projects even though the current projects on OTT are less likely to be affected. So, they are not in a mood of taking any risk. The OTT platforms have been understandable at least on that front. But when it comes to their own content. They try to back their creative freedom as much as possible. The Global OTT Majors are further more rigid in such aspects than the Desi OTT Platforms,” film experts say.
