We had previously made our readers aware that OTT giant Apple TV Plus had ordered a live-action series based on Godzilla and the Titans with Emmy-nominated filmmaker Matt Shakman (of ‘WandaVision’ fame) attached to direct the opening two episodes of the ambitious venture. Then, around a month back, veteran Hollywood actor Kurt Russell (The Thing, Escape from New York, The Hateful Eight) and his son Wyatt Russell (The Falcon and the Winter Soldier) were roped in to star in the Apple TV+ series.
In yet another casting update for the eagerly anticipated Monsterverse series, Japanese actress Mari Yamamoto has reportedly (via Deadline) been cast in an undisclosed role. She was last seen in the Apple TV Plus drama series ‘Pachinko’ and before that she had starred in the Netflix action thriller movie ‘Kate’ in a relatively small role.
The yet-untitled MonsterVerse series would ostensibly carry forward the story arc set by the MonsterVerse franchise, that started with the 2014 reboot movie ‘Godzilla’, followed by ‘Kong: Skull Island’ (2017), ‘Godzilla: King of the Monsters’ (2019), and ‘Godzilla vs. Kong’ (2021).
The Apple TV Plus Godzilla and the Titans series would purportedly revolve around a family’s journey to unearth its secrets and legacy which connects the family to a mysterious organization known as Monarch. Besides this, nothing much regarding the plot is currently known about the project.
In addition to the Apple TV Plus live-action MonsterVerse / Godzilla and the Titans series, a sequel to the 2021 blockbuster monster movie ‘Godzilla vs Kong’ is also in the works and is set to release in March 2024. Besides, an anime-styled animated series titled ‘Skull Island’ is also under development for the Netflix streaming service.
