Many fine films go unnoticed in the flood of mainstream films every year, and that is a pity because genuine cinephiles sometimes discover these gems themselves.
‘Page 3’ from Madhur Bhandarkar is one such film that is lost from the public eye and is not talked about very much. The film is loaded with great performances and a beautiful story.
The film is told through the perspective of a budding page 3 journalist Madhavi Sharma. Madhavi’s assignment for her newspaper is to go to a high class social gathering and Hunt for some news there. Suddenly she is everybody’s best friend and everyone likes her. Madhavi Sharma becomes a regular at these parties and soon realizes the futility, superficial nature and the jealousy of the celebrities. The film gives a close look into the insecurities and inner troubles of the ‘famous’ people and shows how a regular person may react to it.
The film is written by Manoj Tyagi, Nina Arora and directed by Madhur Bhandarkar and Jay Dev Banerjee. It is a truthful and believable tale and was appreciated by critics and audiences. Page 3 alsp went on to win three national awards and the Golden Lotus Award forbest film.
The movie has the talented Konkona Sen Sharma as the lead, Madhavi Sharma, the page 3 journalist. It also stars other actors like Atul Kulkarni, Sandhya Mridul, Tara Sharma, Anju Mahendru, Boman Irani, Bikram Saluja, Nassar Abdullah and more. The performances are convincing and all the departments are well executed.
