The Stunning 1960s Throwback Show Palm Royale Is One You Should Put On Your Watchlist
We’re feeling very Saltburn meets Mad Men.
Nothing is more captivating than a tale with a social outcast who yearns to fit in. Presenting Palm Royale, the new nostalgic TV show based in the 1960s and starring Kristen Wiig. According to reports, it is partially based on Juliet McDaniel’s novel Mr. and Mrs. American Pie, which tells the tale of a Palm Springs socialite who has a breakdown after her husband dumps her for his secretary.
Who has been cast in Palm Royale?
Icon Laura Dern, Allison Janney, Bottoms actress Kaia Gerber, and Carol Burnett are joining the Bridesmaids star. In addition, Josh Lucas, Mindy Cohn, Leslie Bibb, Amber Chardae Robinson, and pop singer Ricky Martin will make appearances. Along with Laura Dern, Wiig serves as an executive producer on Palm Royale.
She puts a lot of work into competing in a beauty contest in the book, but we’re assuming that in the TV show, the competition is represented by Florida’s Palm Beach upper class.
Palm Royale is created by combining elements of White Lotus, Gossip Girl, and The Talented Mr. Ripley.
How does Palm Royale serve?
According to the show’s synopsis, “Maxine Simmons, played by Kristen Wiig, is an ambitious lady who schemes to get a place at America’s most elite table: Palm Beach high society circa 1969.”
“Palm Royale poses the same dilemma that still perplexes us today, as Maxine tries to breach that impenetrable line between the haves and the have-nots: “How much of yourself are you ready to sacrifice to gain what someone else has?” A further explanation from Apple TV+ follows from 20th March. “Palm Royale is a monument to every outsider battling for their chance to fully belong, set amid the powder keg year of 1969.”
After being shunned by her spouse and social circle, Wiig’s character turns her gaze to the select high society group and immediately wonders what it will take to be welcomed by this new, elite club.
