New genres, new topics are being loved by the audience and critics alike. After so many years, Bollywood is breaking out of the typically expected movies and finally pulling out some great ones. Out of all these genres, “man-wildlife” conflict is a brand new one. It’s not like Bollywood hasn’t experimented but it hasn’t worked out quite well. But, “Sherni” from Vidya Balan, recently was able to bring freshness into the “man-wildlife” genre. Now, it looks like yet another movie will make the mark in the man-wildlife conflict genre.
It is being reported that a feature film is being made by Reliance Entertainments. The movie will star Pankaj Tripathi and Rasika Dugal in the lead roles and will be directed by Srijit Mukerji. The movie is titled “Sherdil” and is being mentioned as a passion project for Srijit Mukherji. The movie will see Rasika Dugal and Pankaj Tripathi as husband and wife once again, after Mirzapur. Besides them, Niraj Kabi plays an important role in the movie.
Sherdil is written by Srijit Mukherji along with Sudeep Nigam. As for the plot of the movie, Pankaj Tripathi will be seen essaying the role of Gangaram, who is the head of a village in inner Uttarakhand. The village has been continuously seeing some untimely, gruesome, and mysterious deaths and someone needs to investigate it. Gangaram voluntarily decides to go into the forest to unfold the mystery and save his poor family.
The story of the movie is based on a real-life incident that took place in 2017 in Uttarakhand’s Philibhit Tiger Reserve. In that incident, families started sending their elderly members into the forest to become meals for tigers. This was because; the government pays compensation to the families that were harmed by the tigers. The gruesome act went on for quite a while until all of this was cracked down and the rest became history.
The movie has been in progress for a long time now. It was announced back in 2019 and was supposed to go on floors in 2020, but again the pandemic turned everything upside down. After that, the movie kept on getting delayed due to the busy schedules of both the actors and now finally it is being decided that the movie shall begin somewhere around the later part of the year.
Keeping all of these aside, it is great to see how such an important genre is being highlighted, that too with stories that need attention and need to be shared.
