From the past few years, the biopic of shuttler Saina Nehwal was in the development and after many hiccups it was ready to arrive last year theatrically. But due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Parineeti Chopra starrer got postponed and now the news of ‘Saina’ eyeing for an OTT release is doing rounds. Parineeti Chopra, who will make her OTT debut with Netflix’s ‘The Girl On The Train‘ which is slated to arrive on 26th February 2021, has been working hard for the shuttler’s biopic.
The movie was earlier planned with Shraddha Kapoor but at some stage the actress parted ways with the film and Parineeti Chopra was brought in and as Saina. The movie has been completed for over a year now and the makers are eyeing to release it as soon as possible. But they are caught in a dilemma.
Since the theatres are supporting only 50% occupancy and the covid scare still very much alive, the makers are seeing that the movie should arrive on the OTT platform. Several of the big movies have arrived on streaming platforms and have brilliantly in the new market. And with ‘Saina’, makers are hoping for something similar.
‘Saina’ has been directed by Amol Gupte and is written by Niranjan Iyenger. While there are only intial talks going around, nothing official has been confirmed by the makers as of yet. And the decision to release the movie on an OTT platform will go through a discussion and a final call will be taken then.
‘Saina’ is eyeing the next 2-3 month for its release as per news portals. It is backed by T-Series Films. Till then let’s wait for an official confirmation
