Fans of Telugu star Pawan Kalyan are super miffed. Reason: there’s massive speculation doing the rounds that Pawan Kalyan’s next film with director Harish Shankar is a remake of Vijay’s 2015 Tamil hit, ‘Theri’. No sooner did the Theri remake rumours start floating around on social media then Pawan Kalyan’s legion of fans expressed their displeasure over Twitter by trending the hashtag “#WeDontWantTheriRemake”.
The trending hashtag had already touched 100k+ tweets on Twitter at the time of writing this article – all this within a span of four hours. One can imagine the outpouring of anguish from fans of the star. It all started when directed Harish Shankar tweeted that there’s big excitement coming the way of Pawan Kalyan fans. As soon as Harish Shankar posted this, someone replied on the post that the upcoming film is a remake of Vijay’s Theri. And then the floodgates opened up. One after the other, fans posted #WeDontWantTheriRemake, and soon the hashtag caught on like wild fire. Fans even tagged everyone, from Pawan Kalyan to Harish Shankar to music director Devi Sri Prasad, to producers Mythri Movie Makers in their #WeDontWantTheriRemake tweets.
It is to be noted that the last two films released featuring Pawan Kalyan as lead were both remakes – ‘Vakeel Saab’ was a remake of the Bollywood movie ‘Pink’, while ‘Bheemla Nayak’ was a remake of the Malayalam film ‘Ayyappanum Koshiyum’.
It is quite obvious that Pawan Kalyan fans are tired of his appearance in remakes, and are looking forward to watching their favorite star in a fresh film, not a remake.
One fan even threatened to commit suicide if Pawan Kalyan did the remake of ‘Theri’. Check out his note –

Now it remains to be seen whether Harish Shankar is really making a Theri remake with Pawan Kalyan, or is it just a case of misplaced speculation.
