The sixth and final season of Peaky Blinders is now streaming on Netflix. It treasures the familiar faces of Cillian Murphy, Paul Anderson, Finn Cole, Anya Taylor-Joy, Sam Claflin, Natasha O’Keeffe, and many more. But the show’s fans are missing Helen McCrory. The actress played Polly Gray, Thomas Shelby’s aunt, in the series. She died due to breast cancer in April last year. This made the makers figure out a way to properly honour McCrory in the last season.
Steven Knight, the creator of Peaky Blinders, discussed this matter with EW some time ago: “First of all, issues of plot and story and television programs are insignificant compared to the tragedy that was the death of somebody so brilliant and so fantastic. But it presented us with a situation.”
We see Polly’s death in the initial moments of Season 6. This ends up enraging his son, Michael, who vows to take revenge on Tommy for his mother’s death. Also, the final season takes place four years after the events of the previous entry
Knight revealed that they originally planned to send Polly to America or some other place. But he and others felt it was not right. “I think Helen would’ve wanted us to continue with the influence of Polly,” he continued.
Season 6 displays instances of Tommy facing difficulties in the absence of Polly. He was closest to her and trusted her more than anyone in the world. Additionally, we witness Tommy and Michael having conversations with her via flashbacks. Ultimately, she becomes the reason behind the conflict between them.
Peaky Blinders Season 6 is currently streaming on Netflix. Stay tuned for more updates.
