Producer Jerry Bruckheimer has provided a positive update about Pirates of the Caribbean 6. Led by Johnny Depp, the iconic Disney franchise has grossed over $4.5 billion from five movies. Apart from Depp, the franchise has featured plenty of sensational acting talents such as Orlando Bloom, Keira Knightley, Geoffrey Rush, Jack Davenport, Jonathan Pryce, Stellan Skarsgard, Bill Nighy, Tom Hollander, and more.
In his recent interview with ComicBook, Bruckheimer shared a promising update about the sixth movie’s script. The work on the next POTC chapter’s script has begun. Disney will greenlight the project after analysing the script’s quality. This is what he said:
“We have a script that’s being written right now. Hopefully it’ll come in in a month or so, and it’ll be as good as I think it will be. So let’s hope that Disney likes it and they give us an opportunity to make it.”
Apart from the first POTC movie (2003), the rest of the entries in the franchise have recieved mixed-to-negative reception, with the final one (2017) being the lowest rated entry on Rotten Tomatoes. Dead Men Tell No Tales has a ‘rotten’ score of 30% on Rotten Tomatoes.
We don’t know if Johnny Depp will return to portray the iconic Jack Sparrow in Pirates of the Caribbean 6, given his highly publicized legal issues with his ex-wife Amber Heard. This uncertainty could lead to a whole new protagonist for the sixth movie. Depp’s inclusion has been one of the major reasons behind the franchise’s immense success and worldwide prominence. The next movie may struggle at the box office without his involvement. However, we should not ignore the fans’ waning interest in the franchise either, considering the last film’s disappointing box office performance compared to previous entries. Stay tuned for more updates.
