An action-comedy film, ‘Polite Society’ is set in the backdrop of the Asian immigrant community in London. After premiering at Sundance in January, Polite Society hit theatres in the UK and US on 28th April, 2023. British-Pakistani teenager and martial arts enthusiast Ria Khan wants to be a movie stuntwoman. When her sister is coerced into getting engaged to a dubious man, she thinks up the most outrageous and innovative ways to sabotage her sister’s wedding.
‘Polite Society’ is written and directed by Nida Manzoor. It is the directorial debut for the creator of the hit British show, ‘We Are Lady Parts’. Polite Society stars Priya Kansara, Ritu Arya, Nimra Bucha, Akshay Khanna, Seraphina Beh, Ella Bruccoleri, Shona Babayemi, Shobu Kapoor, and Jeff Mirza in pivotal roles.
The official synopsis of ‘Polite Society’ reads, “A martial artist-in-training believes she must save her older sister from her impending marriage. After enlisting the help of her friends, she tries to pull off the most ambitious of all wedding heists in the name of independence and sisterhood”.
