Ace producer Ronnie Screwvala has joined hands with award winning filmmaker Prashant Nair to helm his upcoming web series ‘The Support Group’. This latest edge of the seat series is set for a multiple seasons format.
‘The Support Group’ will be directed and show run by Nair and is touted to be a story that follows three individuals coming from varying walks of life who form an uneasy alliance to escape the consequences of an accidental killing.
According to Nair, “The darkness depicted in ‘The Support Group’ will be infused with humor and irony, ensuring that for every shudder there’s also a laugh. The show will dig deep into the rich cultural heritage and nuances of contemporary life in India as a springboard for what will hopefully be a unique viewing experience.”
Alongside Ronnie Screwvala’s RSVP Movies, ‘The Support Group’ will be produced by Siddharth Jain’s House of Talkies banner. Further details about the cast, crew, release and streaming platform are currently under wraps and will be revealed later by the makers.
With Nair on board the expectations will be much higher given his acclaimed previous credits. His second film ‘Umrika’ had premiered at the 2015 Sundance Film Festival and had who won the World Cinema Dramatic Audience Award.
Moreover, his next feature film ‘Tryst With Destiny’ won the Best Screenplay in an International Narrative award at the 2020 Tribeca Film Festival. He has also served as the director for the Amazon Prime Video’s popular series ‘Made In Heaven’.
Nair’s upcoming work includes series adaptation of the book ‘Trial by Fire’ by Neelam and Shekhar Krishnamoorthy who lost their children in the Uphaar cinema fire. The series produced by House of Talkies and Endemol Shine India will follow their journey through the events and their fight for justice.
Coming to Screwvala’s RSVP banner, some of its much anticipated upcoming projects include Ishan Khattar starrer war drama ‘Pippa’, Sam Manekshaw’s biographical film ‘Sambahadur’, rescue film ‘Captain India’, sci-fi epic ‘The Immortal Ashwatthama’, web series helmed by Richie Mehta (‘Delhi Crime’) and based on the Bhopal Gas tragedy and many more.
