The former director of Netflix India Pratiksha Rao is no longer associated with the streaming giant.
Netflix India is just a representation of overall global Netflix. Not only is it struggling for subscribers, but there is also always a kind of turbulence going on.
Binged through various mediums reported that Netflix is firing its employees after they failed to get desired results. In India however, the director of Netflix has stepped down from her position.
After a four year long journey, Netflix India is still behind Disney+Hotstar and Prime Video in terms of subscriber base. But the bigger problem is that the difference between the number of subscribers is too wide.
The credit goes to the social media team of Netflix which is absolutely phenomenal, otherwise, Netflix could hardly stand against the dominance of Disney+Hotstar.
But now, there will be new leadership and a lot of things need to be changed.
Firstly, Netflix must understand that India is a completely different market than the USA. People here need value for money and sadly, they aren’t getting that from the streaming giant. The price to service ratio is so bad that it doesn’t stand anywhere close to its competition. Even the cheapest plan annually costs higher than the most expensive plan of Disney+Hotstar. Also, streaming in 480p even on a mobile phone is NOT COOL in 2022. So, Netflix must think about that.
Secondly, their choice of content is hardly following per mass appeal. Shows like Masaba Masaba, Eternally Confused And Eager For Love, Indian Matchmaking and Fabulous Lives Of Bollywood Wives simply don’t connect with the audience.
They are too woke and nobody likes to torture their brain with a show like that. So whoever the next director is, please make good shows and not the woke ones.
Thirdly, Binged has not only realised but also reported that Netflix rushes to shoot. Thar could be a great film but the makers didn’t put enough effort into perfecting the screenplay. So was the reason why the Baahubali prequel series is stuck in limbo. RRR has proved that Indian content can spark a worldwide rampage if the film is good. We are saying so because a lot needs to be done before shooting if makers are planning to make a good film. It’s high time Netflix puts that insight into their subconscious.
So these are some of the things Netflix must consider under new leadership.
