Malayalam film ‘Premalu’ has proved to be the surprise blockbuster — the third in a row this year — for the hot and happening film industry. ‘Premalu’ released in theatres on 9th February, 2024, and became a runaway hit. This despite the fact that there are no big names in the cast of Premalu.
Both critics and audiences praised the refreshing storyline of Premalu, along with its young cast, and the performance of the lead actor, Naslen K. Gafoor. The film became the highest grossing Malayalam movie of all time upon release. Of course, Manjummel Boys broke that record soon enough.
Not just in Malayalam, Premalu did excellent business in the Telugu states of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh as well. The Telugu-dubbed version of Premalu became a huge hit in the two states.
Regular readers of Binged will know that Premalu is all set to release on OTT this week – on 12th April on Disney Plus Hotstar.
However, there’s a twist in the tale. The streaming rights for the Telugu version of Premalu have been bagged by Telugu OTT platform, Aha Video. Premalu Telugu will also premiere on the same date as the Malayalam one – 12th April, but on Aha Video.
Premalu is written and directed by Girish A. D. The film stars Naslen K. Gafoor and Mamitha Baiju in lead roles, along with Sangeeth Prathap, Shyam Mohan M, Meenakshi Raveendran, Akhila Bhargavan, Althaf Salim, Mathew Thomas, among others, in supporting roles. The film is produced by Fahadh Faasil, Dileesh Pothan, and Syam Pushkaran under their production company, Bhavana Studios.
