Licensed Films
In April 2023, there were several prominent title acquisitions by Amazon Prime Video such as Ravi Teja’s action thriller ‘Ravansura’, Kannada period actioner ‘Kabzaa’, and the neo-noir Tamil action film ‘Pathu Thala’.
However, ‘Rananasura’ and ‘Kabzaa’ failed to create the right kind of impact and the latter was called by many as an inferior version of KGF.
On the other hand, ‘Pathu Thala’ starring Silambarasan and Gautham Karthik in the lead roles was appreciated by OTT audiences on Prime Video during the month. Moreover, the Kannada film ‘Gurudev Hoysala’ managed to impress a segment of audience, especially among fans of the cop movie genre.
But some other licensed film titles like ‘Oh My Darling’, ‘Vellari Pattanam’ and ‘Holy Cow’ didn’t create significant buzz on OTT during the month.
Web Series
The month of April for Amazon Prime Video was ruled by Vikramaditya Motwane’s period drama series ‘Jubilee’. The show garnered unanimously positive feedback from critics and was appreciated by a huge segment of OTT audiences. That’s why the well-deserved ‘Superhit’ status.
Besides ‘Jubilee’, the true crime docuseries ‘Dancing On The Grave’ found many takers and received mostly positive feedback from critics as well. So, on the series front, it was a great month for Prime Video.
Direct-to-OTT Films / Others
There was no major commercial movie which was released in April directly on Amazon Prime Video.
So, overall, there were three ‘Hits’, five ‘Misses’, and one ‘Super-Hit’ title for Amazon Prime Video for the month of April 2023.
