Creed III featuring Michael B. Jordan is all set to get its grand release on March 3, 2023. So what does Amazon, who currently holds the IP(Intellectual Property) rights of the films do to the pleasant surprise of fans? Release all of Sylvester Stallone’s ‘Rocky’ movies onto its OTT platform Prime Video.
It is common to see prequel films trending on OTT platforms ahead of the release of their sequels. Black Panther, James Bond, and even Ajay Devgn’s ‘Drishyam’, it seems the production studios have finally taken notice of this as a valuable business opportunity. Ahead of big releases come discussions of its prospects and what makes people excited for them, leading them to remember the memories they had with the previous film(s) in the franchise. Remembrance of their most liked scenes and a tad bit of nostalgia and viola, fans are on their sofas with popcorn in their hands watching the prequel on an OTT streamer.
With the ‘Rocky’ franchise’s original production studio MGM( who also holds rights to the James Bond films)being purchased by Amazon, bringing the films onto Prime Video seems to be a deliberate move to get the buzz for the spin-off movie going, ahead of its release in around three months. It is to be noted that the other ‘Creed’ movies starring Micahel B. Jordan are not available on the streamer. Only Stallone’s 6 ‘Rocky’ starring him as the fictional boxer Rocky Balboa has started streaming on the platform. However, with the character set to appear in Creed III as it did with the other Creed franchise movies as a mentor to Jordan’s Adonis, his presence is enough reason for fans to get a strong shot of sentimentality.
Rocky Balboa was a character people looked up to. Coming from the working class, the story of the Italian American overcoming the obstacles in his life and his growth into a successful professional boxer is still, nearly five decades after his first appearance in cinemas in 1976, considered one of the most inspiring movies ever made.
Like Prime Video added all James Bond films recently for a short time( that will reportedly end on December 17th), it is unsure as of now whether the ‘Rocky’ films are to stream for a limited period as well.
All six films from 1976’s ‘Rocky’ to 2006’s ‘Rocky Balboa’ are now streaming on Amazon Prime Video in India. For prompt details as to the upcoming Creed III, stay tuned to Binged.
