The battle of the GOATs is very common in sports, from football to badminton; all have their Gods. In terms of sports, Tennis probably has more icons than any other sport, and among them, Roger Federer does have his place on the golden wall.
Prime Video just announced that they will be releasing a documentary on the Swiss legend. As per the recent update, the documentary will focus on the last twelve days of Federer’s Professional Tennis Career.
Prime Video describes the forthcoming documentary as an intimate journey through the last 12 days of Roger Federer’s career. Initially a private recording, it unveils Federer’s vulnerable and candid moments as he bids farewell to tennis and his devoted fans, with insights from rivals and friends like Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic, and Andy Murray.
Especially when Netflix is bringing a strong show such as Break Point, and that too with such a strong response, Prime might have picked the perfect time to respond.
Directed by Asif Kapadia, known for “Amy,” “Senna,” “The Warrior,” and “Diego Maradona,” and co-directed by Joe Sabia. Asif Kapadia is already an established name in terms of documentary, especially after being an Oscar and BAFTA winner.
And let’s hear from the man himself, how Federer feels about the documentary:
“Initially, the idea was to capture the final moments of my professional tennis career so that I could have it later on to show my family and friends. During my career, I tended to shy away from having cameras around me and my family, especially during important moments.”
“But I didn’t see the harm in shooting this as it was never intended for the public. However, we captured so many powerful moments, and it transformed into a deeply personal journey. I am happy to be partnering with Prime Video because of their vast global reach and significant presence in the film industry. This ensures that the story of my final days in tennis will resonate with both tennis enthusiasts and broader audiences worldwide.”
As the OTT platforms are seeing a major shift, from entertainment to the amalgamation of Sports, recognizing such sports icons is definitely necessary.
There is no date or any sort of given title for the Federer documentary. If Prime Video manages to check all the boxes, they will have a gem on their hand, and that’s definitely for the long run.
