Mr. & Mrs. Smith has been renewed for Season 2 at Amazon Prime Video. Created by the leading man, Donald Glover, and Francesca Sloane, the spy series takes inspiration from the 2005 blockbuster of the same name, which starred Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie. On the other hand, the series has Glover (John Smith/Michael) and Maya Erskine (Jane Smith/Alana) as the leading duo.
As per Variety, Season 1 stars, Glover and Erskine, are not expected to return to Season 2. However, the former will still serve as the showrunner and one of the executive producers, along with Sloane.
Considering how Season 1 culminated, it is not surprising that Erskine and Glover would not appear in Season 2. Instead, the series could get transformed into an anthology project, which could lay the foundation for the arrival of a brand new couple in the upcoming season.
Season 1 of Mr. & Mrs. Smith received an outstanding response from critics. On Rotten Tomatoes, it stands at a ‘fresh’ rating of 89%, based on 101 certified critic reviews. However, the audience’s reception was sort of ‘meh’, reflected by the RT’s average audience score of 67%.
