It seems like Prime Video has found its own ‘The Last of Us’, Fallout. The streaming giant’s adaptation of Bethesda’s critically acclaimed video game series has topped the streaming charts. Created by the duo of Graham Wagner and Geneva Robertson-Dworet, the series stars Ella Purnell as Lucy MacLean (one of the young Vault Dwellers from Vault 33), Aaron Moten as Maximus (a squire-turned-temporary Knight Titus from the Brotherhood of Steel), and Walton Goggins as Cooper Howard (also the dangerous and morally ambiguous ‘The Ghoul’).
As per The Wrap, Fallout has left a significant impact on the streaming charts. During its first week, the series collected over 1.5 million household views, enabling it to dethrone FX’s Shogun on Samba TV’s Weekly Wrap Report (April 8 – April 14, 2024). As a result, Shogun has been shifted to the second spot. Still, it is one of the top 3 shows on the list.
However, many have questioned Prime Video’s decision to opt for the binge-model release format for Fallout instead of releasing an episode weekly. The latter release format could have brought more viewership to the show. This is not the first time Prime Video has dropped all episodes of a show at once. It did the same with Season 1 of Neil Gaiman’s Good Omens, which starred the likes of David Tennant and Michael Sheen.
Prime Video could change the release format for Fallout Season 2, after witnessing Season 1’s grand success in terms of viewership. Let’s see what happens.
