According to recent data by Amazon Prime Video season 3 of popular crime thriller series ‘Mirzapur’, that premiere just last week, has become Prime Video India’s most watched show ever in its launch weekend. Season three has broken all the previous records, even those set by ‘Mirzapur’ season 2.
Reportedly, ‘Mirzapur 3’ has also been an international favourite and is trending in the Top 10 list across more than 85 countries, including the U.S., U.K., Canada, and Australia.
This comes in despite the lukewarm response that ‘Mirzapur 3’ has been getting. Also, these numbers don’t capture the whole reality. Since the new season was highly anticipated it was bound to get high viewership numbers in the initial days based on the success of its previous seasons.
Only when the show settles down in a few days, as is the case now, do we get a comparatively truer picture of the entire thing. And yes this time the show isn’t as thunderous as it used to be and this might be because it’s building for a bigger season 4 which is now officially confirmed!
While the details are under wraps, Prime Video and Excel Media and Entertainment have begun production on ‘Mirzapur 4’ where the dynamics for power and dominance will continue to swing until one becomes all powerful. But who will it be?
Overburdened by expectations, ‘Mirzapur 3’ was a bore for most of it and in the process of getting it all right, the show missed on the most important part- entertainment. Though the show does recover in later episodes, it is too late to create the awe it is supposed to. Overall the show seemed to digress from the main plot while trying to do justice to each subplot and building every character arc.
But this could also very well mean that it was just prepping the base for what’s about to come in the next season and more. It could also serve as that much needed link that will later connect everything and lead to a grander climax. At least that’s what we are hoping for!
