Amazon Prime Video is upsetting a lot of its subscribers lately. People are complaining on social media like X and Reddit because now, while watching anything on Prime Video, you get stuck watching ads. It’s not just one or two sometimes people get stuck watching 3-4 ads in the middle of their favourite shows, and the only way to avoid them is by paying extra. That’s making people angry because they already pay for the subscription. Now being asked to pay more just to watch without ads feels unfair and greedy.
After facing all this backlash, Amazon Prime is trying to distract people by promoting its wide library of popular shows and movies, especially ones that are well-loved by Indian audiences. They’ve started campaigns on social media to remind people how great their content is. But let’s be honest, that’s not really going to solve the problem. People don’t subscribe to an OTT platform to watch ads, they subscribe to enjoy movies and shows smoothly, without unnecessary interruptions. And no matter how deeply you appeal to any audience they will bounce off of any platform where there are issues regarding money and payments.
This whole situation reminds people of Netflix’s old campaign called “Netflix for All” where they claimed they had everything for everyone, but that didn’t solve Netflix’s own problems either. Amazon might think their promotional campaign will calm people down, but users are smarter now. If the experience of watching shows is becoming worse, then no amount of promotion will make them stay. At the end of the day, people just want to watch what they like, without being forced to pay more or sit through endless ads.
