Prime Video, once known for offering a smooth and uninterrupted viewing experience, has now decided to walk the path many others have already taken and not in a good way. From June 17, they will start showing ads in between movies and TV shows, even if you’re already paying for a Prime subscription. Yes, you read that right. After spending good money on a subscription, you’ll still have to sit through ads unless you pay even more to remove them.
This move feels unfair and, honestly, a bit too much. Viewers have always turned to platforms like Prime Video to escape from ads, trusting that their subscription covered it all. But now, it seems like just another way to squeeze more money out of people. In a price-sensitive country like ours, where only around 100 million people out of 547 million OTT users actually pay for content, this strategy could backfire badly.
This seems like something out of Black Mirror, a future where every little thing comes with a hidden cost. It’s no wonder frustration is growing. We’ve seen this story before: streaming platforms that once offered clean, ad-free experiences slowly sneaking in charges, tiers, and now this. Ads in content you’ve already paid for.
It also pushes people toward piracy, not because they want to steal content but because it is just more convenient for a lot of people. It’s sad to see a platform that once respected its audience take this route. Let’s just hope they listen before it’s too late. Also, we strongly discourage any act of piracy because that is one of the major reasons our content suffers from mediocrity.
