Prithviraj: 5 Most Important Movies Of My Career

In a recent interview promoting his upcoming Amazon Prime Video Cop thriller ‘Cold Case‘, Malayalam superstar Prithviraj was asked an important question regarding his near two-decade-long career. The question – what were the five most important movies of his career, that influenced him?

A good question and in turn, he told us his five most important movies which helped shape his journey in cinema. So for you, die-hard Prithviraj fans out there, here are his five most important movies of his career and where to stream them:

1. Nandanam

This movie is important for obvious reasons, it was his first-ever film – but it also was a huge change in career paths for Prithviraj. Growing up quite bookish, the actor was expected to go down the academic route before this movie came and changed his life.

Synopsis: Balamani, a housemaid is a huge devotee of Krishna. When she meets the grandson of her aged mistress, she falls in love with him. However, when his marriage gets arranged with someone else, she prays to her favourite God to help her forget him. Check out this film on Amazon Prime Video.

2. Vellithira

At a time when the actor was still having second thoughts about his film career, this movie’s reception helped him to continue with acting. It helped him understand the influence his acting career provides and he stopped looking back.

Synopsis: Raj and his friends go from village to village and shows popular films. He falls in love with a local girl in the latest village he is at, but his past surfaces and changes their lives. The movie is streaming on MX Player.

3. Vargam

One of the first films where Prithviraj had the creative licence to play a specific lead character. The director of this film was someone he had worked with previously, so they were excited to bring a character like that onto the screen.

Synopsis: Solomon Joseph, a corrupt policeman, helps Ummachan with his narcotics business. However, things take a turn for the worse when Solomon ends up accidentally killing Ummachan’s brother. This movie can be watched on Amazon Prime Video.

4. Lucifer

Prithviraj’s directorial debut and his “ode” to the “mass films” from the early 2000s, a film generation he was a part of (and one of the youngest as well) and proud of as well.

Synopsis: A power struggle starts when the leader of a political party passes away. Amidst the chaos, the mysterious Stephen steps in, to ascend the throne. Watch this movie on Amazon Prime Video.

5. Ayyappanum Koshiyum

This movie was important for Prithviraj for a lot more reasons than just its phenomenal script, characters, acting, etc. It was Malayalam director Sachy’s biggest and best film to date and unfortunately, he passed away last year.

Synopsis: Ayyappan, an upright cop, always strives to do the right thing. When he meets retired army havildar, Koshy, who settles in his village – their egos clash and an epic rivalry begins. This movie is currently available on Amazon Prime Video.

Of course, there are many other movies this actor has been a part of, and many of them, better than a couple mentioned on this list. However these films are the movies that influenced him in his life, and that makes this list different.

His latest movie, ‘Cold Case’ will premiere on Amazon Prime Video on June 30th 2021.
