Yashraj Films has just dropped the very first teaser for its highly awaited film ‘Prithviraj‘. The film stars Akshay Kumar in the titular role of the much-celebrated medieval Indian king. Prithviraj premieres in theatres on 21st January, 2022, after a Covid-induced delay of almost 2 years.
The Prithviraj teaser gives glimpses of Akshay Kumar as Prithviraj Chauhan, tackling enemies with assured strokes of his sword. We get to see Sanjay Dutt as Kaka Kanha, Sonu Sood as Chand Bardai, the resident poet in King Prithviraj’s court, and Manushi Chhillar as Prithviraj Chauhan’s wife, Sanyogita. The film also stars Ashutosh Rana, Sakshi Tanwar, Manav Vij and Lalit Tiwari in pivotal roles. We don’t, however, see them in the teaser.
Prithviraj seems to have been mounted on a lavish scale. But the teaser leaves a lot to be desired, especially in Akshay Kumar’s look as Prithviraj. The film is written and directed by Chandraprakash Dwivedi, master creator of several historical content pieces. ‘Prithviraj’ is being promoted as part of the 50th anniversary of the prolific Yashraj Films studio, under the hashtag #YRF50.
The Prithviraj teaser hints that the film will centre more on the Prithviraj – Sanyogita romance than the King’s battle exploits. For those who don’t know, Prithviraj Chauhan had eloped with Sanyogita, the Princess of the kingdom of Kanauj, against the wishes of her father, King Jaichandra. Ashutosh Rana is playing King Jaichandra in the film.
