After the insipid box-office response for the Akshay Kumar starrer action-comedy movie ‘Bachchhan Paandey’, all eyes are now on his second film of the year – ‘Prithviraj’. In the film, Akshay Kumar will feature in and as the fearless and legendary king Prithviraj Chauhan. The movie is slated for a grand theatrical release on 3rd June 2022 in Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu languages.
Last week, Akshay Kumar announced the trailer launch for the eagerly anticipated film backed by Yash Raj Films – its first-ever historical war movie. And, as promised, the makers have now unveiled the movie’s trailer.
‘Prithviraj’ trailer starts off with a 12th Century CE war setting and soon after Akshay Kumar’s titular character is stylishly introduced in an action-packed war scene. The trailer further introduces the film’s other important characters including Miss World 2017 Manushi Chhillar as Sanyogita, Sonu Sood as Chand Bardai, Sanjay Dutt as Kaka Kanha, Ashutosh Rana as Jaychandra, and Manav Vij as the antagonist Muhammad Ghori. The trailer ends with another adrenaline-fuelled scene comprising a pair of lions and Akshay Kumar’s character battling them in an arena, reminiscent of Russel Crowe’s ‘Gladiator’. The trailer is a fine blend of style and substance.
‘Prithviraj’ is reportedly based on the Braj Bhasha epic poem ‘Prithviraj Raso’, a biopic of the legendary warrior king Prithviraj Chauhan. And the film will ostensibly portray the king’s early life, military achievements, marriage to the beautiful princess Sanyogita and his battle with Muhammad of Ghor. The film’s visual trailer has further upped the curiosity quotient surrounding the film’s release.
The ambitious and well-researched movie is a brainchild of Chandraprakash Dwivedi, who is well known for making and starring in the acclaimed historical drama television series ‘Chanakya’. The eminent filmmaker is also known for helming the National Award-winning, period drama film ‘Pinjar’, which came out in the year 2003.
After ‘Prithviraj’, Akshay Kumar’s upcoming movies include ‘Bade Miyan Chote Miyan’ co-starring Tiger Shroff, the action-adventure film ‘Ram Setu’, cop thriller ‘Mission Cinderella’, ‘OMG 2’, military action drama ‘Gorkha’, Aanand L. Rai’s ‘Raksha Bandhan’, and ‘Soorarai Pottru’ Hindi remake, amongst other projects.
