The latest entry to the Christmas race from Malayalam Film Industry is Prithviraj Sukumarans’s ‘Kaappa’. The movie which earlier promised a Christmas release will be released in theatres on December 22, 2022.
‘Kaappa’ is touted to be a gangster film and the teaser trailer gives the feels of a mass film. Directed by Shaji Kailas, the movie will be Prithviraj’s second action drama this year with the ace director after the blockbuster success of ‘Kaduva’ a few months back. The synopsis reads “The film explores the dark underbelly of Thiruvananthapuram where rival goondas clash in cold-blooded gang wars to gain dominion over the city’s suburbs and slums”.
The movie boasts of an ensemble cast including Asif Ali, Anna Ben, and the recent National Award Winner Aparna Balamurali. While there were reports of Manju Warrier being associated with the film, it seems she has been replaced by Aparna. The movie is being produced by FEFKA Writers Union, Theatre of Dreams, and Saregama India Ltd. The multi-starrer is the first-ever production venture of the FEFKA Writers Union.
The teaser trailer of the movie upon release was met with positive reviews. Prithviraj Sukumaran in the film is set to play the role of gangster Kotta Madhu, one of the four central characters in the film. The movie is based on renowned novelist GR Indugopan’s story Shankhumukhi. The novelist himself has penned the script and dialogues for the project. Interestingly, another project of the actor for which the shoot is going on currently- ‘Vilayath Buddha’- is also the big-screen adaptation of one of GR Indugopan’s novels.
