The film revolves around the life of a retired theatre actor who has been crowned with the title of ‘Natsamrat’ (King of Actors). After retirement he goes to live with his children, along with his wife. He soon is troubled by his children and finally cornered to a state where he has to leave their homes. Nowhere to go, he spends a night in the street and next day finds his wife to be dead. Later he spends his days in the streets with other homeless people. One day, he hears the news of the theatre where he used to perform being burned down; he visits the place, and takes his last breath there after performing a monologue.
The film is a cinematic genius in many aspects. The direction of Mahesh Manjrekar is simply perfect. The film portrays the ups and downs of the plot and character’s life perfectly, the performances of all the actors are amazing. The performance of Nana is especially commendable. He seems to live the life of the character he played. The film’s plot, storyline, screenplay everything is perfect. The best part of the film is the use of artistic dialogues by Nana that showcase his character’s history as a theatre actor.
For people who are lovers of sentimental and tragic films, this film is a heaven. The film deals with pathos and elements of grief, and is sure to bring tears out of one’s eyes.
