We are sure you all must have endured an evil boss once in your life who did not like anything you did, made atrocious demands, and made your life a living hell. Elizabeth (played by Tilda Swinton) from Problemista is that evil boss. Written and helmed by Julio Torres, Problemista is an upcoming dramedy from A24. Apart from his writing and directing duties, Torres also leads the film’s cast and receives brilliant support from Swinton.
The trailer commences with a voice-over revealing that Alejandro’s mother had recurring visions of his son leaving the safe world she created to protect him from the dangers of the outside world. Soon, the trailer shows a grown Alejandro (played by Julio Torres) facing an immigration problem. He wants his new boss, Elizabeth, to sponsor him, allowing him to successfully deal with his immigration fiasco. However, his life begins to crumble after Elizabeth shows her true colours.
Described as a hydra, Elizabeth is portrayed as a monster with evil red eyes. She makes Alejandro’s life a living hell by constantly shutting him down and neglecting his ideas at every chance she gets. We will see the protagonist getting pushed beyond his limits in the forthcoming A24 project. And the things that can save him are his wildly creative imagination and hard work.
Problemista premiered worldwide at this year’s SXSW event on March 13, where it garnered critical acclaim. The film stands at a rating of 100% on Rotten Tomatoes, based on 21 reviews.
A24 and Fruit Tree have jointly produced the Julio Torres starrer. Emma Stone and Dave McCary serve as the film’s producers under the banner of Fruit Tree.
Apart from Julio Torres and Tilda Swinton, Problemista stars RZA, Catalina Saavedra, Isabella Rossellini, Greta Lee, Megan Slater, Kelly McCormack, and many more. A24 will release the flick in theatres on August 4. Stay tuned for more updates.
