Ahead of the trailer and audio launch, team ‘Ponniyin Selvan: Part One’ is not leaving any stone unturned in promoting the epic drama. Helmed by the iconic filmmaker Mani Ratnam, ‘Ponniyin Selvan: Part One’ will release in cinemas on 30th September, 2022 in Tamil, Hindi, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada.
With trailer set to release on 6th September, makers of ‘PS 1’ have been consistently dropping character looks from the film. While the lead star first looks were dropped a while ago, various other characters are being unveiled now.
The first such look is that of Aishwarya Lekshmi as Samudrakumari Poonguzhaliwho who is as soft as the wind and as mighty as the ocean. Dressed as a common village woman in a cloth draped across her right shoulder, she is seen holding a heavy wooden log with a rope tied on it.

Next up is Sobhita Dhulipala as Vanathi who is quick witted, courteous and much more than what meets the eye. Royal in her look, Sobhita exudes elegance in her off shoulder blouse, saree and shawl accessorised with heavy jewellery.

Then there’s a combined motion poster for three characters- Prakash Raj as Sundara Chozhar, Jayachitra as Sembiyan Maadevi and Rahman as Madhurantakan. They are the Emperor, the Queen Mother and the Son who wants it all respectively.
Prakash Raj and Jayachitra feature as those who have seen and experienced it all for ages. Their grey hair and off white clothes are all about maturity. On the other hand there’s Rahman as a young warrior.

With consistent new character reveals, ‘Ponniyin Selvan’ makers are keeping the fire alive in the audience’s hearts for the film that is less than a month away now. It also helps create the right atmosphere for the trailer launch of ‘PS1’ amidst the massive buzz for another highly awaited upcoming film ‘Brahmastra’. More such character reveals are expected in the coming two days before the trailer arrives on 6th September.
Written, directed and co-produced by Mani Ratnam, ‘Ponniyin Selvan’ is the story of the early days of Arunmozhi Varman who later became the great Chola emperor Rajaraja Chola I. The film is Ratnam’s dream project and has an ensemble cast of Vikram, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Trisha, Karthi, Jayam Ravi, Lal, Sarath Kumar, Jayaram, Vikram Prabhu, Prabhu, Ashwin Kakumanu, Kishore and Aishwarya Lekshmi among others.
Musical maestro A. R. Rahman will compose the music for the film. While Ravi Varman is handling the film’s cinematography, its editing is done by Sreekar Prasad. Allirajah Subaskaran via Lyca Productions is producing the magnum opus alongside Ratnam’s Madras Talkies. B. Jeyamohan has co-written the film.
Based on the eponymous 1955 novel by Kalki Krishnamurthy, the first out of two parts, multi-starrer pan Indian film ‘Ponniyin Selvan: Part One’ will release in cinemas in Tamil, Hindi, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada on 30th September, 2022.
