Amidst the period when PVR INOX keeps on slapping fans with astronomical ticket prices, they often announce gimmicks to keep the audience engaged. To tackle this high pricing, they not only introduced the PVR Passport, but INOX is now having a Cinema Lover’s Weekend.
Remember Cinema Lover’s Day?
A total gimmick.
Now, they hit us with Cinema Lover’s Weekend. What’s the deal?
Kamal Gianchandani, CEO of PVR INOX Pictures, explained, “We were getting feedback from families that they get free only on the weekend for outings, and hence we felt that we should experiment and see the reaction, and then decide the next step. The idea of this weekend came from a lot of people who couldn’t come on a Friday.”
“From Hollywood films like Deadpool, Wolverine, Borderlands, Born Pink, and It Ends With Us, to Hindi films like Ulajh, Kalki, Bad News, Kill, Auron Mein Kahan Dum Tha, Ghuspaithiya, and Aliya Basu Gayab Hai, there’s something for everyone to enjoy,” he added.
Regarding the numbers, the audience can watch any film for ₹199. But there’s a catch. INOX might not always provide a memorable theatrical experience, but when it comes to deceiving the audience, they excel.
For Tier B city audiences, the pricing won’t really affect the experience much because that’s what they usually pay for films in INOX. And as there are no big releases this week, with Ulajh and Auron Mein Kahan Dum Tha already struggling, INOX won’t be heartbroken over this pricing.
But there’s a big catch.
Though INOX claims the offer is available for any movie and any showtime, this is an illusion. Similar to when the makers of Kalki or Deadpool and Wolverine announced cheap ticket prices, INOX often ignored these, keeping prices intact in most places.
It wouldn’t hurt PVR to lower prices, as most of their earnings are from food and beverages, which are already costly. Introducing schemes like these could draw new audiences away from OTT and piracy to the real theatrical experience.
One more day, one more failed gimmick from PVR INOX. They are more inconsistent than the London rain. While Tier B and Tier C city people enjoy cheap tickets, Tier A viewers are burdened with astronomical prices, causing them to avoid theaters due to a busy lifestyle and high costs that can dent anyone’s wallet.
