PVR Passport was one of the most interesting schemes for drawing audiences to theaters. However, over time, this lucrative strategy has turned into a serious “scam” as audiences grow dissatisfied with its implementation.
During its initial period, the usage of PVR Passport went through the roof, giving PVR a necessary boost. Now, PVR has begun to limit its usage. A few weeks ago, PVR INOX introduced new rules and regulations regarding the passport.
Users were previously notified that they wouldn’t be able to use this privilege for certain films during their first week. Now, PVR is further restricting usage with blackout dates during festivals.
What’s the deal?
Independence Day and Raksha Bandhan are two dates when PVR Passport cannot be used, which is a big blow for fans. It’s true that these days will be very busy in terms of audience engagement, but if fans can’t use the passport on these days, what’s the point of opting for it?
Weekends are already off-limits, and now users can’t use it during some festival days. While it’s true that using PVR Passport might lower revenue slightly, it doesn’t have a massive user base, and not all of them will rush to see a movie.
PVR is slowly becoming the villain. In the spirit of “You either die a hero or live long enough to see yourself become the villain,” the PVR Passport might be abandoned by audiences sooner than expected. While it’s true that the cinema chain isn’t here to do charity, they shouldn’t constantly alienate viewers. The game is as much about business as it is about trust, and losing either could spell trouble.
