Production for R Balki’s next directorial project titled ‘Chup – Revenge of the Artist’ has been officially wrapped as informed by one of the film’s writers and veteran film critic Raja Sen. The critic-turned-writer, earlier today, took to Twitter to make the announcement through his post which was marked with the customary words to signal a film’s production wrap: ‘And it’s a wrap’, and also attached a photograph of himself with the film’s director R Balki.
‘Chup – Revenge of the Artist’ is being touted as a psychological thriller film and an ode to the legendary Indian filmmaker Guru Dutt. The film’s title and an aesthetic motion poster featuring Guru Dutt’s image in the backdrop were unveiled a few weeks back on the occasion of Guru Dutt’s death anniversary. The film features an ensemble cast that includes veteran actor Sunny Deol, the immensely talented Dulquer Salman, ‘Scam 1992’ actress Shreya Dhanwanthary, and ‘Bombay Begums’ actress Pooja Bhatt in the lead roles.
Backed by Hope Productions and Rakesh Jhunjhunwala, ‘Chup – Revenge of the Artist’ is acclaimed filmmaker R Balki’s sixth directorial film project. The acclaimed filmmaker started off with the critically acclaimed directorial debut ‘Cheeni Kum’ starring Amitabh Bachchan, Tabu, and Paresh Rawal. His next two directorial ventures ‘Paa’ and ‘Shamitabh’ also featured Amitabh Bachchan in never-seen-before roles. His last directorial was the Akshay Kumar starrer social drama ‘Padman’ which came out in 2018.
Besides the film’s interesting choice of a talented cast, what makes ‘Chup – Revenge of the Artist’ even more interesting is that the film’s genre is a stark departure from R Balki’s previously helmed aforementioned films. The film is slated for a theatrical release in the year 2022.
