We are less than a week away from the release of S. Sashikanth’s Test on Netflix. The upcoming sports drama stars Nayanthara, R. Madhavan, and Siddharth in the leading roles. Alongside them, we will also see other talented actors such as Meera Jasmine, Kaali Venkat, Vinay Varma, Nassar, and more. Will it emerge as a streaming success? Let’s find out!
While the promotional efforts for Test from the makers and Netflix seem somewhat restricted, people are still eagerly awaiting the movie. Its latest trailer was positively received by viewers, with special praise directed at R. Madhavan’s performance. Based on what we’ve seen so far, he looks set to steal the spotlight.
Nayanthara also appears to be in fine form as Madhavan’s character’s wife, who suffered a tragic miscarriage some time ago and is willing to take bold steps to have a baby.
Meanwhile, Siddharth’s character seems to have a different trajectory this time. From exuding confidence and boldness in the opening of the new trailer to finding himself on the brink of a nervous breakdown, his journey of moral conflict and doubt about his love for cricket promises to be an interesting character arc.
Despite Netflix’s controlled promotional strategy for Test, this S. Sashikanth project already looks like a sure-shot winner. The film’s story seems engaging, and we can definitely expect some strong performances from the leading trio.
As for viewership? Well, this weekend belongs entirely to Test, as there are no other major releases in the Indian OTT space alongside it, except for Jesse Eisenberg’s A Real Pain and SonyLIV’s Chamak Season 2. However, both are expected to have a limited audience, as the majority of Indian OTT viewers are likely to be drawn toward Test.
In fact, Test has the potential to dominate viewership throughout April 2025—at least until April 24, when the highly anticipated You Season 5, starring Penn Badgley, releases. Following that, Netflix will drop another big original movie, Jewel Thief, featuring Saif Ali Khan and Jaideep Ahlawat.
Given the ongoing IPL season and its craze among Indian audiences, Test is likely to benefit from this scenario and secure massive viewership.
This means that R. Madhavan and Nayanthara’s Test has at least 20 days to secure substantial viewership. However, much depends on how the movie is received, both critically and by audiences. If it generates positive word-of-mouth, we could see it setting impressive viewership records in its opening days.
Test, starring R. Madhavan, Nayanthara, and Siddharth, will be available to stream on Netflix from April 4. Stay tuned for more updates!
