If you liked Raj & DK’s Family Man, Farzi, and the fresh from the oven Citadel: Honey Bunny, you still haven’t seen them carving out situational comedy at its best as they delivered on that aspect in Kunal Khemu’s starrer ‘99’ which was released in 2009. The crime comedy film delivered in all aspects and at the time was the talk of the town among youngsters.
It had everything, like everything you crave in a crime comedy film nowadays, and being associated with Raj & DK is like cherry on top. The film also stars Cyrus Broacha, Soha Ali Khan, and Boman Irani alongside a young Kunal Khemu who is ready to deliver an unlimited dose of laughter.
The story revolves around 1999, when a high-speed chase between low-level crooks Sachin played represented by Kunal Khemu, and Zaramud played by Cyrus Broacha destroys their stolen vehicle, which regrettably belonged to powerful thug AGM played by Mahesh Manjrekar.
After he allows Sachin and Zaramud to pay off their obligation, they quickly find themselves touring the nation to collect AGM’s unpaid gambling bills. The two end up in more perilous circumstances as a cricket controversy engulfs India.
All in all, if you love situational plots and seeing the main lead stuck in severe conditions resulting in laughter, this one’s for you. The film 99 can be streamed on Amazon Prime Video and is also available for rent on Youtube. While it might not be a century, the film is a great knock of laughter.
