Raksha Bandhan Trumps Laal Singh Chaddha in a Smart Marketing Move

By Binged Bureau - Aug 10, 2022 @ 11:08 am
Raksha Bandhan Trumps Laal Singh Chaddha in a Smart Marketing Move

Aanand L. Rai’s next directorial film ‘Raksha Bandhan’ is all set for its theatrical release on Thursday, 11th August. And as you all know, the Akshay Kumar starrer family drama will have a direct clash with Aamir Khan’s eagerly anticipated ‘Forrest Gump’ Hindi language adaptation ‘Laal Singh Chaddha’.

The stakeholders for both ‘Raksha Bandhan’ and ‘Laal Singh Chaddha’, led by their lead actors Akshay Kumar and Aamir Khan, are leaving no stones unturned to promote their films. Well known for his marketing adeptness, Aamir Khan initially executed the master stroke of launching his film’s trailer during the IPL finals. Akshay Kumar too has been persistently making appearances in multiple promotional events to market his upcoming film.

And now, the makers of ‘Raksha Bandhan’ have adopted a smart marketing strategy which could directly result in enhanced visibility and potentially more ticket sales from prospective movie goers. Just a day before the film will be out in theatres, ‘Raksha Bandhan’ has promoted itself on India’s immensely popular ticket booking portal BookMyShow. As a result, ‘Raksha Bandhan’ has now bagged the first spot on the BookMyShow’s home page (both mobile app and website) in the ‘recommended movies’ section (See BookMyShow screenshot attached below).

Not just that, even on Paytm’s movie ticket booking portal, ‘Raksha Bandhan’ appears as the first film. While Aamir Khan’s ‘Laal Sing Chaddha’ currently holds the second spot. (See Paytm screenshot attached below).

Since a significant number of movie goers these days book their movie tickets through online portals like BookMyShow and Paytm, the strategy to market their film on these websites might yield rich dividends in relation to Raksha Bandhan’s box office performance. It’s because of the perceived notion amongst prospective ticket buyers that ‘Raksha Bandhan’ is placed on the top spot while ‘Laal Singh Chaddha’ on the second. Having said that, the minds of the customers aka movie goers work in mysterious ways. And eventually, it all boils down to how well a film has been made and its entertainment quotient.

Tomorrow is the D-Day for both ‘Raksha Bandhan’ and ‘Laal Singh Chaddha’ and that’s when we’ll come to know about the actual box-office performance for these films. Which movie are you planning to watch first in theatres: ‘Raksha Bandhan’ or ‘Laal Singh Chaddha’? Let us know in the comments box below.
