Ram Setu Trailer: India’s Answer to Indiana Jones or a Far Cry?

By Binged Bureau - Oct 11, 2022 @ 12:10 pm
Ram Setu Trailer: India’s Answer to Indiana Jones or a Far Cry?

The makers of ‘Ram Setu’ and its lead actor Akshay Kumar have shifted gears in terms of promoting the film in a big way. The action-adventure movie will be released in theatres during Diwali holidays on 25th October. With precisely two weeks left for its release, the makers have just dropped the much-anticipated trailer for the film.

‘Ram Setu’ trailer starts off with a court proceeding where the authorities ask for permission to demolish the Ram Setu. Cut to Akshay Kumar’s character, who is sent on a dangerous archaeological expedition to Ram Setu to unveil the mystery behind it. The much-publicized exosuit also appears in the trailer in a big way followed by glimpses of an underwater mission.

The underlying plotline of ‘Ram Setu’ follows the daredevil adventures of an archaeologist named Aryan Kulshrestha (played by Akshay Kumar), who must race against time to find out whether the Ram Setu bridge is a myth or reality. And to save Ram Setu in just three days. As per the epic Ramayana, the Ram Setu bridge was painstakingly built by the Vanara Sena to hep Lord Ram reach Lanka to get back his wife Sita from the clutches of Ravana.

‘Ram Setu’ has been written and directed by Abhishek Sharma, whose directorial filmography includes critically acclaimed films such as ‘Parmanu: The Story of Pokhran’ and ‘Tere Bin Laden’. And this is not the first time he will be directing Akshay Kumar as the actor-director duo had earlier collaborated for the 2014 comedy film ‘The Shaukeens’.

So, from the trailer, can it be said that ‘Ram Setu’ will be India’s answer to Steven Spielberg’s cult ‘Indiana Jones’ film series or still a far cry even after 40 years? We think it might be a bit premature and even unfair to compare the upcoming Indian film with the immensely popular and long-running film franchise. The reasons are the production scales and the directors’ exposure. We can’t compare a veteran filmmaker like Steven Spielberg with a relatively inexperienced, albeit promising, director Abhishek Sharma. Spielberg had already helmed films like ‘Jaws’ and ‘Close Encounters of the Third Kind’ before making the first Indiana Jones movie ‘Raiders of the Lost Ark’.

However, if ‘Ram Setu’ turns out to be a well-made film, then it has the potential to hold its own and give the Hindi film industry a much-needed boost with respect to theatrical releases.

‘Ram Setu’ is an important theatrical release for Akshay Kumar as his last three theatrical releases namely ‘Raksha Bandhan’, ‘Samrat Prithviraj’, and ‘Bachchhan Paandey’ fetched an insipid response at the box office. Ram Setu’s promising trailer and intriguing premise alludes to the possibility of Akshay Kumar getting a potential box office smash hit.

Besides Akshay Kumar in the lead role, ‘Ram Setu’ also features Jacqueline Fernandez, Nushrratt Bharuccha, Satyadev, and Nassar in pivotal roles. The film also marks the Bollywood film production debut for OTT giant Amazon Prime Video (co-producer).
