The fans of “The Man Without Fear” are at it again. With the movie and television rights of the blind lawyer/vigilante ‘Daredevil’ returning to Marvel yesterday, twitter has renewed its campaign to bring back Daredevil under the trending hashtag #SaveDaredevil.
‘Daredevil’ was cancelled by Netflix on November 29th 2018. Under the terms of the Marvel-Netflix deal, Marvel Studios wouldn’t be allowed to use the character in any of their movies or TV shows until a two-year hold following that cancellation expired. The twitter handle “@RenewDaredevil” even created a plan to storm twitter with #SaveDaredevil and to get it trending all over the world. Which it seems to have done.
We had previously mentioned this trend at the beginning of the month, when there was some hype about bringing back the superhero without replacing any cast from the original show. But in that article, we were discussing why we didn’t need another season of Daredevil.
As mentioned in the previous article (and to those who haven’t read it), the third season of ‘Daredevil’ was one of the best superhero stories ever created, be it for cinema or television. And the best part is, the series ended with nearly every (main) character on the show having completed a character arc. So if we never get another “Charlie Cox Daredevil” (Charlie Cox was put on this earth to play Daredevil, in my honest opinion), it wouldn’t be so bad. Sure, there is a lot more story that can be told, but we got one of the best endings in superhero television history.
But after saying all that, if we can get Marvel to keep the original cast and maintain a similar tone for another series of ‘Daredevil’, then I can definitely get behind #SaveDaredevil. With multiple ‘Daredevil’ stars such as Charlie Cox, Vincent D’Onofrio and Deborah Ann Woll going on twitter, encouraging people to get behind the trending hashtag, we hope that Marvel Studios will finally have the courage to bring a dark, grey character on-screen.
