Golden Raspberry Foundation changes its decision. The Razzies have officially rescinded Bruce Willis’s “Worst Performance in a 2021 movie” award after discovering his recent Aphasia diagnosis. On March 31, the actor’s family announced his retirement from acting as a result of his serious medical condition.
Razzies function as a humorous and sarcastic take on the Academy Awards by honouring prominent Hollywood individuals for their worst work in movies. However, the Golden Raspberry Foundation suffered a heavy backlash from fans for its decision of bestowing the award to Willis.
Cofounders Mo Murphy and John Wilson recently released a statement via Us Weekly about Willis’ Aphasia diagnosis and apologised for their decision “If someone’s medical condition is a factor in their decision making and/or their performance, we acknowledge that it is not appropriate to give them a Razzie.”
Willis is well-known for portraying John McClane in the Die Hard movie series. Also, he is famous for his work in Pulp Fiction, 12 Monkeys, The Fifth Element, The Sixth Sense, Armageddon, Sin City, The Expendables series, and many more films. The actor started starring in a series of several direct-to-video films after 2014’s Sin City sequel. Many people thought that this step was taken by him due to his reduced prominence in Hollywood. Especially after the disastrous box office performances of A Good Day to Die Hard, G. I. Joe: Retaliation, and Red 2 in 2013. His last direct-to-video project, A Day to Die, got dispatched on March 4. He starred alongside Frank Grillo and Kevin Dillon in that one.
Additionally, fans can get a chance to see Bruce Willis in multiple upcoming projects like Fortress: Sniper’s Eyes, Vendetta, The Wrong Place, Die Like Lovers, and many more, all scheduled for direct-to-video release in future.
