Ben Silverman’s Propagate Entertainment Company, in conjunction with Space Hero Company, has planned the mother of all reality shows until now — a “Space Travel Reality Show”! The winner of the reality show will find themselves going to the International Space Station! Now, that’s what is a real super duper jumbo prize! The news was first reported this evening by Deadline.
Ben Silverman is the Golden Globe and Emmy-winning producer of shows such as Ugly Betty, The Office, The Biggest Loser, among others. Space Hero is a production company founded by Thomas Reemer and Deborah Sass and led by former News Corp Europe chief Marty Pompadur.
The two companies together have dreamt up an astonishing plan for a reality show, with space as the centrepiece. They have the rudimentary points in place for an unscripted show titled ‘Space Hero’. The show will call upon contestants from across the world, comprising people who have a passion for space travel.
But passion alone won’t get them the ticket to space. Shortlisted contestants will have to face and endure the toughest mental, physical and emotional challenges that will test their capability to survive in space. The episodes of the reality show will feature the contestants facing the endurance tests, after which, a grand finale will be held to declare the winner. The finale might be broadcast live across the world, and audiences will get to vote for the contestant they think should be the winner and go to space.
But the show will not end there. It will capture the winners journey to the International Space Station, their 10-day stay at the ISS with astronauts, and end with their return to Earth. Living on the ISS will certainly be an experience, given that it revolves around Earth at a speed of 17,000 mph and orbits the Earth 16 times a day.
The Space Hero Company has already secured a seat on the 2023 mission to the International Space Station. That seat is the one that will go to the winner of the Space Reality Show. The Space Hero winner will go to the ISS on Elon Musk’s SpaceX Dragon rocket.
Space Hero is a step into the fantastical future for Reality TV. After all, how many singing, dancing, cooking, dating, survival shows will we keep churning out in the future.
Space Hero will be up for bidding soon, to be grabbed by the winning streaming platform and broadcast partner globally.
