Imagine a situation when most OTT platforms are making content for you. It can be as beautiful a film as Chamkila or as extraordinary a series as Rocket Boys.
But, most of the audience would still prefer watching reels on social media. In a survey conducted by a consulting company called “Accenture”. They revealed a report called “Reinvent for Growth”. What does the data say?
Over 35% of people in India find it hard to switch between various entertainment apps and devices. Also, 72% feel that the content suggested to them doesn’t really match what they like. Many people here are constantly subscribing and unsubscribing to different services based on what they want to watch. In fact, almost 65% of Indian customers cancel and then subscribe again to services depending on their current content preferences. And to add to that, 63% of Indian consumers cancelled more subscriptions in 2023 compared to the year before.
About 66% of Indians say that they prefer user generated content instead of streaming platforms.
What is user generated content precisely?
A kind of content that is generated through users. Quite obviously, it is the kind of content we see on social media through reels and stuff. It is strange but we have to understand why it is happening.
User generated content is very much rooted with the users. They talk about the things people see around themselves. The best way to understand this is through watching Chamkila as the success of the artist was due to the same rootedness.
Let’s see if streaming platforms adapt themselves after these numbers.
