It has been a good couple of months without club football, and we know many of us have been itching for the sport to come back. While football is not one of our best International sports, we as a country are still one of the largest consumers of European football – which has some of the best football action compared to the rest of the world. And among the European elite, 5 major football leagues have the best club football around the globe. These leagues will start within the next couple of weeks and here is all the information you will need to watch them:
Ligue One AKA The French League
We kick things off with the “lowest in rankings” among the elite 5. We call it lowest because of the lack of competition the league has had in the past few years (which has slowly been changing over the years. Unfortunately, because of this reason, the top French league is not in “viewing demand” in many countries, India included. Which means, we cannot watch this league anywhere in the country, legally at the very least. Google and a few good footballing apps however provide decent in-depth game analysis. The league starts on 8th August 2021.
Lega Serie A AKA The Italian League
Another league that was coming close to the French League’s situation till last season (The situation being the French league has consistently had a single winner over a long period of time, for the most part). Inter Milan beat Juventus’ 9-year winning streak, denying them their tenth league trophy in a row last year. Inter Milan has also slowly started making a comeback to their previous glory years with Atalanta showing a marked improvement. The Bundesliga AKA The German League
The youngest football league among “the top 5 leagues” has perhaps some of the most exciting football to be ever seen. While this league too has a club monopoly on league victories, there is a healthy competition between all clubs with clubs like BVB Dortmund, RB Leipzig and Bayer 04 Leverkusen making Bayern Munich fight for every cup, especially in the last couple of years. La Liga AKA The Spanish League
Considered by many (from around the world), as the place where some of the greatest football takes place – it is one among the two European leagues from the top 5 where the winner cannot be predicted – a point proved when Athletico Madrid won the league this year. For over two decades, this league did give us some of the best football, especially during the Messi-Ronaldo el-Classico era. The Premier League AKA The English League
The oldest league in the world also has the highest football following around the world. While some of it is largely due to the language (English), the league is also highly unpredictable and has remained so over the past 30 years. “Clubs empires” rose and fell, but nearly every club in the Premier League (and even some clubs in a tier below them) have an international following.
