Amazon and MGM Studios have unveiled the first trailer for Ricky Stanicky. It is a new R-rated comedy directed by Peter Farrelly, the man behind hits like “Dumb and Dumber” and “There’s Something About Mary.” The film stars an ensemble cast featuring John Cena, Zac Efron, Jermaine Fowler, Andrew Santino, and William H. Macy.
The story follows three friends, Dean, JT, and Wes, who invent a fake person named Ricky Stanicky to avoid consequences for a childhood prank gone wrong. Fast forward twenty years, and they still use Ricky as their scapegoat. However, trouble brews when their partners want to meet the elusive Ricky. Thus, the friends decided to hire actor “Rock Hard” Rod, played by John Cena.
So how is the story? Very much like the concept of “Housefull” from Bollywood that works in parts. It is excessively done and comes out as almost unbearable. The comedy lies in the chaotic factor which does not work for a film in 2024.
The trailer moves ahead as Rod fully embodies the persona of Ricky and the friends find themselves outmatched by their own creation.
The film is set to premiere on Prime Video on March 7. Let’s wait to see how the film actually comes out to be.
