Many LOTR fans are anxiously waiting for Prime Video’s The Rings of Power Season 2. Despite gaining mixed critical reception for its plot elements, the show received positive reviews for its performances, visuals, and Bear McCreary’s musical score. However, fans witnessed a major plot hole in the first season that could plague the upcoming season as well.
We know that The Rings of Power is not tightly following J. R. R. Tolkien’s source material and has taken several creative liberties. One of them is heavily focusing on Galadriel and Sauron, and ignoring several important characters from Tolkien’s lores, including Celeborn (Galadriel’s husband) and Celebrian (her daughter).
Galadriel married Celeborn at an early age. However, the latter, along with their daughter, was absent in Season 1. If Prime Video adds these two characters into Patrick McKay and J. D. Payne’s creation, Galadriel’s arc could get complicated in the forthcoming season. This scenario may also affect the show’s main storyline, which is the conflict between Galadriel and Sauron.
Several fans have theorised that Celeborn is alive. It will be hard for Prime Video to add Celeborn and Celebrian to the show. However, we cannot just ignore Celebrian as she is Arwen’s mother. Arwen is known as Lady of Rivendell, who becomes Aragorn’s wife and Queen of Arnor and Gondor in The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King (2003). Not mentioning Celebrian in The Rings of Power ultimately wipes out Arwen’s existence in the LOTR universe.
