Robert Kirkman has offered an exciting update about the live-action Invincible project. In a recent interview with IGN, Kirkman gave the latest update about the movie’s current status. He disclosed that production was underway but was going on at a slow pace. The reason for this scenario is Kirkman’s decision to take time with the development of the live-action project.
“It’s going through the pipeline, slowly,” Kirkman revealed about the Invincible movie. “The strikes [Hollywood] and everything kind of put a pause on things for a while. We’re just now getting back into that, and it’s all very exciting, but it’s not something that we’re rushing.”
Robert Kirkman’s decision to develop a live-action Invincible film makes sense, considering the animated series’ growing fanbase. In addition, this scenario allows the superhero creator to take new directions or paths that are not possible in animation and comic books.
The production houses’ efforts to bring more obscure anti-heroes, superheroes, and adversaries into the limelight have increased significantly in recent years. We have already received three thrilling, wild, bloody, and psychotic seasons of Eric Kripke’s The Boys, which serves as a live-action take on the comic book series of the same name developed by the duo of Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson. The show’s humungous global success spawned spinoffs like Gen V and the animated anthology series Diabolical.
If the makers do their job right with the live-action Invincible film, we may witness more spinoffs, prequels, or sequels coming out of the superhero franchise in the future, which would ultimately be great for the character.
Invincible made his comic debut in 2003. But his prominence skyrocketed in 2021, thanks to Prime Video’s animated series based on the character. It’s great to witness Hollywood bringing lesser-known comic book characters to the big screen.
Yes, the complaints about the growing superhero fatigue among audiences are hard to ignore. However, it does not mean the demand for superhero projects is decreasing. It’s just fans have grown tired of watching superhero projects that focus heavily on familiar stories, locations, and characters.
