Anirudh Ravichander‘s live concert streamed on Disney+Hotstar on Friday last week. The concert was in a buzz from the last few weeks but there is more to it.
The Coimbatore concert is scheduled to stream live on November 12th and those who missed the performance last week may love to watch it next month.
Anirudh Ravichander is enjoying a phenomenal run as a composer. His album Vikram received enormous success due to its insanely brilliant BGM and naturally, his fans were excited about the concert.
But did you notice something important?
The concert was streaming live on an OTT platform. This is something unknown to the Indian masses and a very new thing, to begin with.
No wonder it garnered a great audience and the buzz was very much visible on social media.
So will this mode of live-streaming concerts continue on OTTs?
At least on Hotstar, it will continue till mid-November. If the platform finds it worthy then they may collaborate with other artists and eventually, other OTT platforms may also find similar content. So it all depends on how many viewers such live concerts draw.
But an even bigger question is the fate of live performances. Will the audience still be interested in buying tickets if they can easily watch it live on OTT?
We don’t think so. Anirudh Ravichander didn’t compose any new songs on the stage but performed the existing ones. So applies to most performances across the globe.
But the very experience of watching a live performance draws people to the auditorium. So it is highly unlikely that the audience will stop going to the auditorium due to OTT streaming.
