Karan Johar is the man behind many successful movies in Bollywood. Be it donning the producer’s hat or ruling the director’s seat, Karan Johar has done it all. His last directorial “Ae Dil Hai Mushkil” turned out to be a major hit and it has been 5 years since he has donned the director’s hat. But, Karan Johar still has been busy with plenty of his movies in production and also backing several more films. But, now Karan Johar is back, back with him being behind the lens.
Yes, Karan Johar’s new movie which has been titled “Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani” has finally been announced. The movie will star Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt in the lead as Rocky and Rani respectively. But besides them, Karan has roped in some major stalwarts of Bollywood. Apparently, Shabana Azmi, Dharmendra, and Jaya Bachchan have also joined Alia and Ranveer for the upcoming movie. The movie is written by Ishita Moitra, Shashank Khaitan, and Sumit Roy.

The movie will definitely show a love story but will also focus on family and family values. This is where the three legends come in. Dharmendra and Shabana Azmi apparently are playing the role of Alia Bhatt’s grandparents in the movie, while Jaya Bachchan will be seen essaying the role of Ranveer Singh’s grandmother in the movie.
Shabana Azmi and Dharmendra will come together in a film for the second time, the first time they were together on a film; was in 1988 with the movie “Mardon Wali Baat”. They were also supposed to do a movie titled “Bichchoo” but that never happened. Apart from that, it is the first time Shabana Azmi and Jaya Bachchan will be seen sharing the screen and if reports are to believed, they have some pretty intense scenes in the movie.
Besides these legends, Alia Bhatt and Ranveer Singh have already been a part of the hit Zoya Akhtar movie “Gully Boy” and have also been part of several ad films together. Also, there was news earlier this year where it was mentioned Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt were coming together for a new romance film, and by the looks of it, “Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani” seems to be it. The entire team is super excited to be a part of this project and with Karan coming in as the director of the movie, things will definitely get even more exciting.
The movie is slated to release sometime in 2022.
