MCU’s Secret Invasion finale can be summarised as messy and disappointing. Even She-Hulk’s finale looks like a masterpiece in front of Episode 6. The latter failed to take complete advantage of a compelling story sown at the beginning of the series. Critics on Rotten Tomatoes also have a similar feeling about the show’s final episode.
Episode 6 of Secret Invasion has become the lowest-rated episode in the history of MCU, with a horrible critic score of only 13%. This scenario has adversely affected the show’s overall rating, taking it down to 57% (rotten).
Secret Invasion is one of those rare comic book events that have the potential to match the hype and quality of Infinity War and Endgame. It is clear that Marvel Studios (under the direction of Kevin Feige) failed to recognise the event’s potential and considered it worthy of a Disney+ series adaptation.
We cannot blame Ali Selim and the rest of Secret Invasion’s team entirely for this mess. For some time now, things have been going downhill for the MCU. Apart from their disappointing storylines, the latest projects from the superhero franchise have also disappointed the fans with terrible CGI. The helmer of ‘Thor: Love and Thunder’, Taika Waititi, has even mocked the film’s CGI in a promotional video.
The situation is so bad that even people leading the franchise, including Feige, have been forced to come out of the shadows and take the matter into their own hands. This is what Feige told people in February this year: “It is harder to hit the zeitgeist when there’s so much product out there.” He added, “The pace at which we’re putting out the Disney+ shows will change.”
Secret Invasion aimed to establish itself as a mature superhero spy thriller entry. However, it lacked the elements to achieve its aim, turning out as a show with long and boring episodes. In addition, it fails to utilise its cast properly. We do get some solid acting performances from Samuel L. Jackson and Ben Mendelsohn. However, the show squanders the rest of its cast.
You can stream all episodes of Secret Invasion on Disney+ Hotstar. Stay tuned for more updates.
