‘Avatar: The Way of Water‘ has been receiving rave reviews upon its world premiere. In fact, phenomenal, masterpiece, and mesmerizing have been terms used to describe the film. The film’s Rotten Tomatoes rating is out and it stands at 84%, based on 86 reviews. While it’s not at all bad, the 84% does seem to be a tad lower than what was expected after the initial reaction from critics. So will this in any way affect people’s thoughts on going to watch the film in theatres?
No.
Why? One reason. Because it’s ‘Avatar: The Way of Water’.
When a neutral movie-going audience wonders if the movie they want to go and watch is worth a visit to the theatres, one thing he’ll do is look at the Rotten Tomatoes rating. However, despite not getting the perfect score or even 90%+, ‘Avatar: The Way of Water’ would have no trouble getting people into theatres because, well, it is ‘Avatar: The Way of Water’. There’s no other way to say it. What the James Cameron film is promising its audience is not a mere movie but in fact a cinematic experience. And that’s something that has and will have no substitute.
Even if the reviews had been mixed, people’s interest in the film wouldn’t have had much tilt since the movie’s visuals are itself seemingly worth the ticket. When ‘Avatar’ was released in 2009, the film blew people’s minds regarding the never-seen-before visuals. And when the maker of classics like ‘Terminator’, ‘Terminator 2: Judgement Day’ and ‘Titanic’ promises you that the film will have even better-looking ground-breaking visuals than its prequel, then who cares about a few critics and their ratings given in a professional capacity?
Critics may have watched the film for review, but we are not. We watch a film like ‘Avatar: The Way of Water’, irrespective of the exorbitant ticket prices, in order to experience the immersive visual extravaganza on screen, suspending all disbelief. And with Cameron always delivering what he’s promised, there doesn’t seem to be any need for doubt regarding the film’s ability to deliver.
The only concern to trouble yourself with? To find a good theatre with a great sound system, definitely, an IMAX if possible in any way. For those who saw the film in 2009, it’s time to return to Pandora, even more immersive this time. For those who didn’t, your first time in theatres for Pandora seems to be definitely worth the visit.
The film will release on 16th i.e. this Friday. Grab the popcorn, be at ease and let Cameron take you on a once-in-a-lifetime cinematic adventure.
